Envoy iPad visitor sign-in kiosk with Brivo integration

Brivo and Envoy Visitor Management, Installed Across LA

Visitor management kiosks replace paper sign-in books with iPad-based check-in, badge printing, host notifications, and access control integration. Done right, your front desk turns into a self-service experience that protects the building and tracks every visit.

The Tech Guys Doors and Gates is an authorized Brivo dealer and an Envoy integration partner. We install kiosk hardware, configure both platforms, wire the door controllers, and train staff. Our service area covers Los Angeles County, Orange County, and San Diego County.

Most LA offices we work with want one thing the legacy paper log can’t deliver: when a visitor signs in at the kiosk, the system automatically issues them a temporary credential and unlocks the doors they’re authorized to enter. That’s where the Brivo + Envoy pairing wins.

A modern visitor kiosk also solves three other problems most front desks struggle with. First, it gives you a clean audit trail with photos, signed NDAs, and time-stamped check-ins that hold up in a compliance review. Second, it routes notifications to the right host on Slack, Teams, or SMS so receptionists aren’t the bottleneck. Third, it lets you screen visitors against your own blocklist or industry watchlists before they ever get past the lobby. None of that is possible with a paper sign-in sheet, and most basic kiosk software won’t tie the check-in to actual door access. That’s the gap the Brivo + Envoy combo fills.

Brivo Visitor Management, Powered by Envoy

Here’s the part most installers don’t tell you: Brivo’s official visitor management product is Envoy. Brivo doesn’t build their own kiosk software. When they launched Brivo Visitor Management in August 2025, they did it by partnering with Envoy and reselling Envoy’s platform as the official visitor experience for Brivo customers.

That means the integration we install is not a third-party bolt-on. It’s the path Brivo themselves recommend, and it ships with deeper hooks than any other visitor platform can offer on Brivo hardware.

What the Integration Actually Does

Five Credential Types

Envoy can issue a Brivo credential as a Mobile Pass push, a QR code, a 4-digit PIN, a license plate (for gated lots with Eagle Eye LPR), or a Faceprint biometric. The visitor only sees their email or the iPad. The door unlock happens on Brivo.

Automatic Time Windows

Credentials expire automatically at the end of the visit. No manual cleanup. Full audit trail in both Brivo and Envoy, with the visitor’s photo, ID scan, and signed NDA stored together.

Faceprint Without an App

Brivo can use the photo Envoy captures at check-in as a face credential at a Brivo Door Station. The visitor doesn’t install anything. They just walk up to the door.

Real Access Groups

Standard Visitor, Vendor, Contractor, Interview Candidate. Each Envoy sign-in flow maps to its own Brivo access group with its own doors, time windows, and screening rules.

Visitor Management Platforms We Install

We focus on the two platforms that actually work together end-to-end and that we install across LA every week: Envoy and Brivo Visitor Management. Both run on the same kiosk hardware. Both integrate cleanly with Brivo Cloud Access Control. There’s no third-party glue, no fragile middleware, no separate vendor to call when something breaks.

Envoy Visitors

The platform we install most. Pre-registration, photo capture, ID scan, NDA signing, badge printing, host SMS or Slack alerts, watchlist screening. Workplace tier adds desk booking and employee sign-in. Visitors Enterprise plan unlocks the Brivo integration.

Brivo Visitor Management

Powered by Envoy under the hood. Best fit when the building already runs Brivo Access at Professional Edition or above. Credentials flow automatically from kiosk to door. One bill, one support contact, two platforms working as one.

What a Visitor Management Kiosk Includes

A complete front-desk kiosk is more than an iPad on a stand. Here’s what we typically install and configure end-to-end.

iPad and Kiosk Stand

10.9-inch iPad on a locked Heckler H600, Armodilo, or floor-standing kiosk depending on the lobby footprint. Wired Ethernet adapter for reliability. Tamper-resistant mounting.

Brother QL-820NWB Badge Printer

The industry-standard label printer for Envoy and most visitor platforms. Wi-Fi or Ethernet connected. Prints automatically when the visitor finishes check-in. Handles thousands of badges per roll.

ID Scanner and Photo Capture

Optional Magtek ID scanner for driver’s license capture. iPad camera captures the visitor photo for the badge and the Brivo Faceprint credential. Watchlist comparison runs in the background.

Host Notifications

Slack, Microsoft Teams, SMS, or email. Hosts get an alert with the visitor’s photo and meeting details. Reception staff aren’t required for routine check-ins.

Access Control Integration

Brivo credential issued automatically. The visitor unlocks lobby doors, elevators, and meeting room floors based on their pre-defined access group.

NDA and Policy Acceptance

Digital signature capture for NDAs, safety waivers, health screenings, and visitor policies. Signed documents archive automatically in Envoy and exportable for audits.

Access Control Integration With Brivo

Brivo Cloud Access Control is the platform we recommend most for LA offices and multi-tenant buildings. It’s open ecosystem, hardware-agnostic, and pairs cleanly with Envoy. We install Brivo at every scale from a single front entry to multi-floor buildings.

Brivo ACS300 and ACS6000 Controllers

The ACS300 handles one or two doors with onboard Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. PoE+ powered. The ACS6000 is a four-reader panel for multi-tenant buildings and larger campuses with OSDP reader support.

Brivo Mobile Pass

Mobile credential that lives in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Employees unlock doors with their phone via Bluetooth or NFC. Visitors can receive a Mobile Pass too when the Envoy integration issues one at check-in.

Brivo Smart Readers

All-in-one mullion-mount and single-gang readers, with or without keypad. Mobile, card, QR, and PIN capable on the same device. We typically install these for the visitor lobby and primary entry points.

Brivo Snapshot for Tailgating

AI-fused frame of the access event plus the camera video, side by side. Included in Brivo Professional and Enterprise editions. Catches the second person who slipped through behind a credentialed visitor.

Industries That Benefit From Visitor Management

Visitor management fits many kinds of facilities across LA, Orange, and San Diego counties. The needs shift by industry, and the platform choice usually follows. Here is how a kiosk setup typically fits each one.

Corporate Offices

Common in Santa Monica, Playa Vista, Culver City, DTLA, and Century City. High visitor volume, vendor NDAs every visit, Slack or Teams host alerts, Wi-Fi credentials issued at check-in. Envoy + Brivo is a natural fit here.

Biotech and Life Sciences

Common in El Segundo, the Westside, and Torrance. ITAR and FDA visitor compliance, blocklist screening, signed health screenings, segregated lab access by Brivo access group. Envoy Visitors Enterprise paired with Brivo handles the compliance logs and the door-by-door restrictions.

Studios and Production

Common in Burbank, Hollywood, and Culver City. Talent and crew sign-in with NDA every visit. Visitor photo on badge, dated and stamped. Access limited to the right stages or post bays.

Manufacturing and Warehouses

Common in Long Beach, Carson, Vernon, and City of Industry. Vendor and driver check-in, safety orientation video at the kiosk, OSHA and C-TPAT compliance documentation, dock door access via Brivo.

Schools and Education

K-12 districts and private schools. Envoy with sex offender database screening, custody verification, volunteer background tracking, and real-time evacuation rosters. Brivo Access for staff entries and after-hours building lockdown.

Coworking and Shared Offices

WeWork-style buildings, executive suites, member-day-pass operations. Envoy Connect or Workplace tier handles the member sign-in and the guest pass flow. Brivo Multifamily edition can run the floor doors.

Multi-Tenant Office Buildings

Common in DTLA, Century City, and Beverly Hills. Envoy Connect at the lobby for the building, Envoy Visitors at each tenant’s suite, Brivo running every floor and elevator stop. One platform, many tenants, clean audit trail.

Medical and Clinics

Medical buildings and clinics. HIPAA-aware visitor logs, patient confidentiality, time-stamped sign-in for compliance audits. Photo capture and badge for every visitor.

Our Installation Process

Every install starts with a site walk so we can spec the hardware to your lobby and your door count. From there it’s a five-step process that takes one working day for a single front desk and two to five days for multi-tenant or multi-floor builds.

1. Site Walk

We measure the lobby, audit the existing door hardware, check Wi-Fi coverage, and confirm power and network drops. Most walks take 45 minutes.

2. Design and Quote

We spec the kiosk hardware, the Brivo panel and reader count, the Envoy plan tier, and any network or door hardware upgrades. You get a clear scope and a quote.

3. Cable and Mount

We run any new low-voltage cable, mount the Brivo panel, install readers and strikes, set up the kiosk stand and badge printer. Standard business hours, minimal disruption.

4. Software Config

We provision Brivo Access, set up access groups, enable the Envoy integration with your API key, build sign-in flows, customize NDA documents, configure host notifications.

5. Training and Handoff

We train your front-desk staff and your admin. You get a runbook with reset instructions, common troubleshooting, and our support contact. Same-day handoff for most installs.

Visitor Management Kiosks FAQ

What’s the difference between Envoy and Brivo Visitor Management?

Brivo Visitor Management is Envoy. Brivo launched their visitor product in August 2025 by partnering with Envoy and reselling the Envoy platform as the official front end. The hardware, software, and user experience are the same. The difference is which company you license through and how the access control integration is configured under the hood.

Do we need an existing Brivo system to use Brivo Visitor Management?

Yes. The Brivo Visitor Management product requires a paid Brivo Access account at Professional Edition or higher. If you don’t already run Brivo, we can quote both at once. The Envoy side needs Visitors Enterprise or Workplace Enterprise plan to enable the Brivo integration.

What hardware do I need for a single front desk?

A 10.9-inch iPad on a locked stand, a Brother QL-820NWB badge printer, an optional Magtek ID scanner, the Brivo panel and one or two readers on the doors you want the kiosk to unlock, and the door hardware (strike or maglock) to make those doors release on credential. We supply and install all of it.

Can visitors pre-register before they arrive?

Yes. Hosts invite visitors through Envoy. The visitor gets an email with a pre-registration form, completes the NDA and any health screening in advance, and shows up to a faster check-in. With the Brivo integration, the visitor’s mobile credential is already waiting on their phone when they walk in.

How does the system screen for blocked or watchlisted visitors?

Envoy checks every sign-in against your internal blocklist, your industry-specific watchlists (like sex offender registries for schools), and any custom denylists you’ve built. If there’s a match, the kiosk alerts security silently and the visit isn’t approved. Nothing visible to the visitor.

Does the kiosk work without internet?

No. Envoy is a cloud platform and the Brivo integration runs through the cloud. If the building loses internet, the kiosk can’t check visitors in. Most LA offices we install have backup cellular failover on the network, which keeps the kiosk and Brivo both running through an outage.

How long does installation take?

A typical single front desk with one or two access points takes one working day for cabling and panel mounting plus half a day for the Envoy and Brivo software configuration. Multi-floor or multi-tenant builds take three to five days depending on door count.

Can the system print visitor badges automatically?

Yes. The Brother QL-820NWB prints a badge the moment the visitor finishes check-in. The badge shows the visitor’s name, photo, host, date, and a custom label if you want (Vendor, Contractor, Interview, etc.). Roll capacity is high enough for most offices to refill once a quarter.
