- Mag locks – Electromagnetic locks that hold 600-1,200 lbs of force. Popular in commercial buildings. We wire them to your intercom and add a request-to-exit button inside.
- Electrified panic bars – Push-bar exit devices (Von Duprin, Falcon, Detex) with electric latch retract or electric strike. Required by fire code on many commercial doors.
- Electric dead latches – Stronger than a standard strike. The bolt retracts electrically when the intercom triggers it. Good for high-security residential gates.
- Keypads and card readers – HID, DoorKing, and Linear keypads give tenants or staff a way in without calling the intercom. We program them alongside your intercom system.

Common Intercom Problems We Fix in West LA

App Connectivity Issues
DoorBird, ButterflyMX, and UniFi intercoms rely on your network. Router changes, firmware updates, or DHCP issues can knock them offline. We check the network config, assign a static IP, and verify push notifications work on your phone.
Tip: If your intercom is more than 15 years old and needs major repairs, ask us for a replacement quote alongside the repair estimate. Sometimes a new system costs less than hunting down discontinued parts.

Why does my intercom ring inside but no one is at the door?
Phantom ringing is usually caused by a short in the call button wiring or a faulty call button. Water intrusion on the outdoor station can also trigger false calls. We replace the button and seal the housing.
My apartment intercom directory doesn’t work. Can you reprogram it?
Yes. DoorKing and Linear telephone entry systems lose their programming after power outages or board failures. We reprogram the full tenant directory and can add a battery backup to prevent future data loss.
The intercom buzzes but doesn’t unlock the door.
This means the intercom is sending the unlock signal but the lock isn’t responding. The electric strike might be jammed, the release timer might be too short, or there’s a wiring break between the intercom and the lock. We diagnose and fix all of these.
Can you convert my wired intercom to wireless?
We can replace your wired system with a wireless or IP-based intercom. However, the lock hardware (strikes, mag locks) still needs power wiring. We keep the lock wiring in place and switch the intercom communication to wireless or network-based.
