Intercom Repair in Redondo Beach
The Tech Guys Doors and Gates repairs intercom systems across Redondo Beach. From DoorBird video intercoms to DoorKing telephone entry systems, we fix them all. Our technicians work on residential homes, beach condos, and commercial properties near the pier.
Redondo Beach properties deal with the same coastal moisture issues as other South Bay cities. We use stainless steel and IP65-rated intercom stations that hold up against salt air and morning fog.
Intercom Brands We Repair in Redondo Beach
IP Video Intercoms
- DoorBird – Made in Germany. HD video, two-way audio, smartphone app. No subscription fees. Works on 2-wire or PoE.
- 2N – Professional-grade IP intercom with touchscreen panels, RFID access, and SIP integration. Built for offices and large buildings.
- ButterflyMX – Cloud video intercom designed for multi-tenant buildings. Each resident answers from their own phone.
- UniFi (Ubiquiti) – Self-hosted video intercom for properties that want local control with no cloud fees.
Telephone Entry and Audio Systems
- Aiphone – Hardwired intercom systems trusted in Redondo Beach homes and buildings for decades. Audio and video models available.
- DoorKing (DKS) – Telephone entry for gated communities and parking structures. Supports hundreds of tenant entries.
- LiftMaster – Gate intercom with MyQ integration. Pairs with LiftMaster gate operators.
- Linear – Cost-effective telephone entry for HOAs and small commercial properties.
- Panasonic – Wireless intercom for homes and small offices. Expandable with additional handsets.
Locking Hardware and Access Control
An intercom is only useful if it can actually open the door or gate. We install and wire the locking hardware that connects to your intercom system:
- Electric strikes – Replace or add to your mechanical lock. The intercom sends a signal, the strike releases, and the door opens. Most common for lobby and pedestrian gate entry.
- Mag locks – Electromagnetic locks that hold 600-1,200 lbs of force. Popular in commercial buildings. We wire them to your intercom and add a request-to-exit button inside.
- Electrified panic bars – Push-bar exit devices (Von Duprin, Falcon, Detex) with electric latch retract or electric strike. Required by fire code on many commercial doors.
- Electric dead latches – Stronger than a standard strike. The bolt retracts electrically when the intercom triggers it. Good for high-security residential gates.
- Keypads and card readers – HID, DoorKing, and Linear keypads give tenants or staff a way in without calling the intercom. We program them alongside your intercom system.
Common Intercom Problems We Fix in Redondo Beach
Here are the issues we see most often on service calls in Redondo Beach:
No Power to Intercom
If the screen is dead and there’s no ring tone, the power supply or transformer may have failed. We test voltage at the intercom, trace back to the transformer, and replace whichever component died. On PoE systems, the issue might be the network switch.
Buzzing or Humming Sound
A constant buzzing from the speaker usually means a ground loop or a failing capacitor on the audio board. We isolate the noise source, check grounding, and replace the affected component.
Intercom Rings but Nobody Answers
If the outdoor station calls but the indoor monitor or phone app never rings, the connection between them is broken. On wired systems, it’s usually a cable fault. On IP systems, a network configuration change is the usual culprit.
Keypad Not Accepting Codes
Keys that don’t respond, wrong codes working, or the whole keypad being unresponsive. We check the keypad membrane, reprogram codes, and replace the unit if the buttons are worn through.
Camera Fogging or Condensation
Outdoor intercom cameras fog up when the housing seal breaks. Moisture gets in and condenses on the lens. We replace the gasket, dry the unit, and seal it properly. In coastal areas, we add silicone sealant for extra protection.
Redondo Beach Intercom FAQ
My intercom screen is dim. Is it fixable?
A dim screen usually means the backlight is failing or the power supply is dropping voltage. On older Aiphone units, the screen itself may need replacing. We test the power first, then the display. If parts are available, we fix it. If not, we recommend a replacement.
Why does my intercom work sometimes but not others?
Intermittent issues are often caused by loose wire connections that make contact only when temperature or vibration shifts them. We check every terminal and junction point, re-terminate connections, and verify consistent operation.
Do you repair intercoms in apartment buildings?
Yes. We work on multi-tenant systems from every major brand. We handle individual unit repairs, full building system troubleshooting, and tenant directory reprogramming. We coordinate with property managers on scheduling.
How do I know if I should repair or replace my intercom?
If repair costs more than half the price of a new system, replacement usually makes more sense. We’ll quote both options so you can compare. Older systems with discontinued parts are usually better off replaced.
