AJ was outstanding! He fixed our DoorBird system, which we had not been able to operate for six months. Not only knowledgeable but professional and friendly. He was very good to explain the troubleshooting and the step by step approach.

Intercom Brands We Repair in Malibu

Video Intercom Systems

  • DoorBird – German-made IP video intercom. Smartphone app, HD camera, no monthly fees. Our most popular residential pick.
  • ButterflyMX – Cloud-based video intercom for apartments and multi-tenant buildings. Visitors call directly to your phone.
  • 2N – Enterprise-grade IP intercom from the Czech Republic. Touchscreen directory, RFID access, SIP integration.
  • UniFi (Ubiquiti) – Self-hosted video intercom for tech-forward homes and offices. Runs on your local network with no cloud dependency.

Audio and Telephone Entry

  • Aiphone – Hardwired audio and video intercoms. Reliable for decades. Common in Malibu properties.
  • DoorKing (DKS) – Telephone entry callboxes for gated communities, apartment buildings, and parking structures.
  • LiftMaster – Gate intercom with MyQ app integration. Works with existing LiftMaster gate operators.
  • Linear – Budget-friendly telephone entry for small commercial properties and HOAs.
  • Panasonic – Wireless intercom systems for homes and small offices. Easy to add handsets.

Locking Hardware and Access Control

Your intercom needs to connect to something that physically opens the door or gate. We install and wire all the lock hardware that makes that happen:

  • Electric strikes – The most common lock release for intercom systems. When you press “unlock” in the app, the strike releases and the door opens. We install them on pedestrian gates, lobbies, and side entries.
  • Magnetic locks (mag locks) – Electromagnetic locks rated for 600 to 1,200 lbs of holding force. We wire them to your intercom with a request-to-exit sensor on the inside. Standard for commercial buildings and parking garages.
  • Electrified panic bars – Exit devices from Von Duprin, Falcon, and Detex with electric latch retract. Fire code requires these on many commercial and multi-tenant exit doors. We wire them into the intercom circuit.
  • Electric dead latches – More secure than a standard strike. The latch bolt retracts when the intercom sends the unlock signal. We use these on high-security gates and entries where a standard strike isn’t enough.
  • Smart keypads and RFID readers – Give regular visitors a code or card to enter without calling the intercom. We install DoorKing, Linear, and HID readers and program them to work alongside your intercom.

Common Intercom Problems We Fix in Malibu

Here are the issues we see most often on service calls in Malibu:

No Power to Intercom

If the screen is dead and there’s no ring tone, the power supply or transformer may have failed. We test voltage at the intercom, trace back to the transformer, and replace whichever component died. On PoE systems, the issue might be the network switch.

Buzzing or Humming Sound

A constant buzzing from the speaker usually means a ground loop or a failing capacitor on the audio board. We isolate the noise source, check grounding, and replace the affected component.

Intercom Rings but Nobody Answers

If the outdoor station calls but the indoor monitor or phone app never rings, the connection between them is broken. On wired systems, it’s usually a cable fault. On IP systems, a network configuration change is the usual culprit.

Keypad Not Accepting Codes

Keys that don’t respond, wrong codes working, or the whole keypad being unresponsive. We check the keypad membrane, reprogram codes, and replace the unit if the buttons are worn through.

Camera Fogging or Condensation

Outdoor intercom cameras fog up when the housing seal breaks. Moisture gets in and condenses on the lens. We replace the gasket, dry the unit, and seal it properly. In coastal areas, we add silicone sealant for extra protection.

Tip: Before calling for a repair, try rebooting your intercom by cutting power for 30 seconds. On IP intercoms like DoorBird and UniFi, also restart your router. This fixes about 20% of the issues we get called for.

Malibu Intercom FAQ

My intercom screen is dim. Is it fixable?

A dim screen usually means the backlight is failing or the power supply is dropping voltage. On older Aiphone units, the screen itself may need replacing. We test the power first, then the display. If parts are available, we fix it. If not, we recommend a replacement.

Why does my intercom work sometimes but not others?

Intermittent issues are often caused by loose wire connections that make contact only when temperature or vibration shifts them. We check every terminal and junction point, re-terminate connections, and verify consistent operation.

Do you repair intercoms in apartment buildings?

Yes. We work on multi-tenant systems from every major brand. We handle individual unit repairs, full building system troubleshooting, and tenant directory reprogramming. We coordinate with property managers on scheduling.

How do I know if I should repair or replace my intercom?

If repair costs more than half the price of a new system, replacement usually makes more sense. We’ll quote both options so you can compare. Older systems with discontinued parts are usually better off replaced.
