AJ and the Tech Guys SAVED me! After calling 3 other companies who could not figure out my DoorBird system AJ came and got it all working. He was on time, courteous and stayed until it worked. He cleaned up another installer's mess.

Intercom Brands We Install in West LA

Residential Intercom Brands

  • DoorBird – IP video intercom with HD camera, mobile app, and zero monthly fees. Made in Germany. Our top pick for homes.
  • Aiphone – Trusted hardwired intercom brand for homes and gated entries. Simple, reliable, and built to last.
  • UniFi (Ubiquiti) – Network-based video intercom for homeowners who want local storage and no cloud subscriptions.
  • Panasonic – Wireless intercom for homes and small offices. Easy to add extra handsets without running cable.
  • LiftMaster – Intercom with MyQ app integration. Great if you already have a LiftMaster gate operator.

Commercial and Multi-Tenant Brands

  • ButterflyMX – Cloud-based video intercom for apartment buildings. Residents answer on their phone. No in-unit hardware needed.
  • 2N – Enterprise-grade IP intercom with touchscreen directory, RFID readers, and SIP protocol support.
  • DoorKing (DKS) – Telephone entry systems for gated communities, parking garages, and commercial buildings.
  • Linear – Affordable telephone entry for HOAs, small offices, and light commercial use.

Locking Hardware and Access Control

Your intercom needs to connect to something that physically opens the door or gate. We install and wire all the lock hardware that makes that happen:

  • Electric strikes – The most common lock release for intercom systems. When you press “unlock” in the app, the strike releases and the door opens. We install them on pedestrian gates, lobbies, and side entries.
  • Magnetic locks (mag locks) – Electromagnetic locks rated for 600 to 1,200 lbs of holding force. We wire them to your intercom with a request-to-exit sensor on the inside. Standard for commercial buildings and parking garages.
  • Electrified panic bars – Exit devices from Von Duprin, Falcon, and Detex with electric latch retract. Fire code requires these on many commercial and multi-tenant exit doors. We wire them into the intercom circuit.
  • Electric dead latches – More secure than a standard strike. The latch bolt retracts when the intercom sends the unlock signal. We use these on high-security gates and entries where a standard strike isn’t enough.
  • Smart keypads and RFID readers – Give regular visitors a code or card to enter without calling the intercom. We install DoorKing, Linear, and HID readers and program them to work alongside your intercom.

Our Installation Process

Here’s how a typical intercom installation works in West LA:

Site Assessment

We start by walking your property and checking every entry point. We look at your gate type, existing wiring, power availability, and network setup. This tells us which intercom brand fits your situation and how much work the installation will take.

Equipment Selection

Based on the site assessment, we recommend a specific intercom model. We carry inventory on our trucks for popular models like DoorBird D2101V and Aiphone GT series. For larger installs, we order equipment and schedule the installation once it arrives.

Wiring and Mounting

We run all cables through conduit to protect them from weather and damage. The outdoor station gets mounted at the right height for visitors. If your gate has a pillar, we flush-mount the intercom for a clean look. For surface-mount jobs, we use weather-rated housings.

Lock and Access Hardware

We install the electric strike, mag lock, or whatever hardware connects your intercom to the gate or door. We wire and test the release circuit to make sure the door actually opens when you press the button in the app or on the indoor station.

Programming and Setup

We configure the intercom, set up your smartphone app, add all users, and test every function. For apartment systems, we program the full tenant directory. You get a walkthrough of how everything works before we leave.

Tip: If you’re upgrading from an old audio intercom to a video system, ask us about reusing your existing wiring. Many DoorBird and Aiphone models work with 2-wire setups, which saves time and money on installation.

West LA Intercom FAQ

How much does intercom installation cost?

A single residential video intercom runs $800-$2,500 installed, depending on the brand and how much wiring is needed. Multi-unit apartment systems start around $3,000 and go up based on the number of stations and tenants.

Can I use my phone to answer the intercom?

Yes. DoorBird, ButterflyMX, 2N, and UniFi all have smartphone apps. When someone presses the call button, your phone rings with a live video feed. You can talk to the visitor and unlock the door remotely.

Do you run new wiring or use existing cables?

We check your existing wiring first. Many modern intercoms work with 2-wire or Cat5 cable that may already be in place. If we need to run new cable, we route it through conduit to keep the installation clean.

What happens if the internet goes out?

IP intercoms still handle local door release without internet. You lose remote app access and cloud features until the connection comes back, but the doorbell and electric strike still work on the local network.
