Intercom Installation Playa Vista
AJ installed my DoorBird in Laurel Canyon, and after 18 months came back to make a rain-related repair. Both times he was so professional and knowledgeable and just terrific to work with, making the whole process easy.

Intercom Installation in Playa Vista
The Tech Guys Doors and Gates installs intercom systems across Playa Vista for new construction condos, tech offices, and mixed-use developments. We carry DoorBird, Aiphone, ButterflyMX, UniFi, 2N, DoorKing, LiftMaster, Panasonic, and Linear. Each brand fits different needs, and we’ll help you pick the right one.
Playa Vista’s modern buildings often come pre-wired for smart access systems. We integrate intercoms with existing building networks, set up mobile app access, and configure visitor management for office lobbies and residential buildings.
Intercom Brands We Install in Playa Vista
Video Intercom Systems
- DoorBird – German-made IP video intercom. Smartphone app, HD camera, no monthly fees. Our most popular residential pick.
- ButterflyMX – Cloud-based video intercom for apartments and multi-tenant buildings. Visitors call directly to your phone.
- 2N – Enterprise-grade IP intercom from the Czech Republic. Touchscreen directory, RFID access, SIP integration.
- UniFi (Ubiquiti) – Self-hosted video intercom for tech-forward homes and offices. Runs on your local network with no cloud dependency.
Audio and Telephone Entry
- Aiphone – Hardwired audio and video intercoms. Reliable for decades. Common in Playa Vista properties.
- DoorKing (DKS) – Telephone entry callboxes for gated communities, apartment buildings, and parking structures.
- LiftMaster – Gate intercom with MyQ app integration. Works with existing LiftMaster gate operators.
- Linear – Budget-friendly telephone entry for small commercial properties and HOAs.
- Panasonic – Wireless intercom systems for homes and small offices. Easy to add handsets.
Locking Hardware and Access Control
An intercom is only useful if it can actually open the door or gate. We install and wire the locking hardware that connects to your intercom system:
- Electric strikes – Replace or add to your mechanical lock. The intercom sends a signal, the strike releases, and the door opens. Most common for lobby and pedestrian gate entry.
- Mag locks – Electromagnetic locks that hold 600-1,200 lbs of force. Popular in commercial buildings. We wire them to your intercom and add a request-to-exit button inside.
- Electrified panic bars – Push-bar exit devices (Von Duprin, Falcon, Detex) with electric latch retract or electric strike. Required by fire code on many commercial doors.
- Electric dead latches – Stronger than a standard strike. The bolt retracts electrically when the intercom triggers it. Good for high-security residential gates.
- Keypads and card readers – HID, DoorKing, and Linear keypads give tenants or staff a way in without calling the intercom. We program them alongside your intercom system.
Our Installation Process
Here’s how a typical intercom installation works in Playa Vista:
Site Assessment
We start by walking your property and checking every entry point. We look at your gate type, existing wiring, power availability, and network setup. This tells us which intercom brand fits your situation and how much work the installation will take.
Equipment Selection
Based on the site assessment, we recommend a specific intercom model. We carry inventory on our trucks for popular models like DoorBird D2101V and Aiphone GT series. For larger installs, we order equipment and schedule the installation once it arrives.
Wiring and Mounting
We run all cables through conduit to protect them from weather and damage. The outdoor station gets mounted at the right height for visitors. If your gate has a pillar, we flush-mount the intercom for a clean look. For surface-mount jobs, we use weather-rated housings.
Lock and Access Hardware
We install the electric strike, mag lock, or whatever hardware connects your intercom to the gate or door. We wire and test the release circuit to make sure the door actually opens when you press the button in the app or on the indoor station.
Programming and Setup
We configure the intercom, set up your smartphone app, add all users, and test every function. For apartment systems, we program the full tenant directory. You get a walkthrough of how everything works before we leave.
Playa Vista Intercom FAQ
How much does intercom installation cost?
A single residential video intercom runs $800-$2,500 installed, depending on the brand and how much wiring is needed. Multi-unit apartment systems start around $3,000 and go up based on the number of stations and tenants.
Can I use my phone to answer the intercom?
Yes. DoorBird, ButterflyMX, 2N, and UniFi all have smartphone apps. When someone presses the call button, your phone rings with a live video feed. You can talk to the visitor and unlock the door remotely.
Do you run new wiring or use existing cables?
We check your existing wiring first. Many modern intercoms work with 2-wire or Cat5 cable that may already be in place. If we need to run new cable, we route it through conduit to keep the installation clean.
What happens if the internet goes out?
IP intercoms still handle local door release without internet. You lose remote app access and cloud features until the connection comes back, but the doorbell and electric strike still work on the local network.
