Intercom Installation in Malibu
Looking for professional intercom installation in Malibu? The Tech Guys Doors and Gates serves beachfront homes, canyon estates, ranch properties, and gated communities with nine intercom brands. We handle everything from the site survey to the final programming walkthrough.
Malibu properties range from PCH beachfront homes to remote canyon estates. Long driveways and limited cell service in some areas make a reliable hardwired intercom important. We design systems that work even when your phone signal doesn’t.
Intercom Brands We Install in Malibu
IP Video Intercoms
- DoorBird – Made in Germany. HD video, two-way audio, smartphone app. No subscription fees. Works on 2-wire or PoE.
- 2N – Professional-grade IP intercom with touchscreen panels, RFID access, and SIP integration. Built for offices and large buildings.
- ButterflyMX – Cloud video intercom designed for multi-tenant buildings. Each resident answers from their own phone.
- UniFi (Ubiquiti) – Self-hosted video intercom for properties that want local control with no cloud fees.
Telephone Entry and Audio Systems
- Aiphone – Hardwired intercom systems trusted in Malibu homes and buildings for decades. Audio and video models available.
- DoorKing (DKS) – Telephone entry for gated communities and parking structures. Supports hundreds of tenant entries.
- LiftMaster – Gate intercom with MyQ integration. Pairs with LiftMaster gate operators.
- Linear – Cost-effective telephone entry for HOAs and small commercial properties.
- Panasonic – Wireless intercom for homes and small offices. Expandable with additional handsets.
Locking Hardware and Access Control
Every intercom system needs locking hardware to actually control the door or gate. Here’s what we install and wire:
- Electric strikes – The intercom triggers the strike, and the door opens. This is the most common setup for pedestrian gates, lobby doors, and side entrances. Quick to install and works with most lock types.
- Mag locks – Electromagnetic locks with 600-1,200 lbs of holding force. We mount them on commercial doors and wire them to the intercom with a request-to-exit button on the inside.
- Electrified panic bars – Push-bar exit devices from Von Duprin, Falcon, and Detex. Fire code requires them on commercial exit doors. We connect them to the intercom for controlled entry.
- Electric dead latches – A stronger option than a standard strike. The bolt retracts electrically when the intercom sends the signal. We install these on gates that need extra security.
- Keypads and RFID readers – HID, DoorKing, and Linear access hardware. Tenants and staff get a code or card to bypass the intercom. We program these to work with your system.
Our Installation Process
Here’s how a typical intercom installation works in Malibu:
Free Consultation
Call us or fill out the online form. We’ll ask about your property type, how many entry points you need, and what features matter to you. For bigger jobs, we schedule a free on-site visit to see the property in person.
System Design
We put together a plan that covers equipment, wiring routes, lock hardware, and installation timeline. You get a clear quote with no surprises. We explain why we’re recommending a specific brand and what alternatives exist if you want to compare.
Professional Installation
Our technicians handle everything from pulling cable to mounting hardware to programming the system. We test every component as we go. The outdoor station, indoor monitor, electric lock, and app connection all get verified before we consider the job done.
Training and Handoff
We walk you through the system in person. How to answer calls, how to unlock remotely, how to add new users, and how to check recorded video. We make sure you’re comfortable with everything before we pack up. If you have questions later, call us.
Malibu Intercom FAQ
Which intercom brand do you recommend for homes?
For single-family homes, we usually recommend DoorBird. It’s made in Germany, gives you HD video on your phone, and there’s no monthly subscription. Aiphone is another solid pick if you prefer a hardwired indoor monitor.
Can you install an intercom on my existing gate?
In most cases, yes. We mount the intercom station on your gate pillar or wall, wire it to an electric strike or mag lock, and connect it to your gate operator if you have one. We’ve retrofitted intercoms onto iron gates, wood gates, and steel sliding gates.
How long does installation take?
A single residential intercom takes 2-4 hours. Multi-unit apartment systems run 1-3 days depending on how many stations and how much new wiring is needed. We’ll give you a time estimate before we start.
Do I need a separate access control system?
Not always. Many intercoms have built-in RFID readers or keypad options. If you need separate keypads for tenants, we can add DoorKing or Linear keypads alongside your intercom and program them together.
