DoorBird installer Playa Vista
AJ installed my DoorBird in Laurel Canyon, and after 18 months came back to make a rain-related repair. Both times he was so professional and knowledgeable and just terrific to work with, making the whole process easy.

DoorBird Installations We See in Playa Vista
Playa Vista is unique in West Los Angeles — it’s a planned community built on the former Hughes Aircraft site, and almost everything here was constructed in the last 20 years. That means most of the housing is modern condos, lofts, and townhomes in HOA-managed buildings, with smaller pockets of single-family homes in the Bluffs and the Concert Park area. Almost every property here was wired for high-speed internet and structured cabling from day one, which makes DoorBird installations significantly easier than in older neighborhoods. The challenge is usually working with the HOA architectural rules, not the technical install.
The most common Playa Vista install is replacing an aging building intercom system in a multi-unit condo or loft building. Many of these buildings have original 2003-era wired intercom panels at the lobby that no longer match how residents actually live — everyone’s on their phone, no one wants to walk to a wall panel to buzz in a delivery driver. DoorBird’s multi-tenant models (D2105V, D21DKV, D21DKH) replace those old panels with a modern app-based system that lets each unit get notifications on their phone with live video.
Working with Playa Vista HOAs
Almost every Playa Vista building is HOA-managed, and any visible exterior modification needs board approval. We’ve worked with most of the big HOAs in the area — The Tapestry, The Esperanza, The Carabela, The Crescent, Loft Boulevard, Concert Park — and we know what each board wants to see in an architectural request: product spec sheets, mounting drawings, color and finish samples, and a written installation plan that shows the existing intercom is being replaced rather than augmented. We can prepare these documents for your HOA submission and attend the architectural review meeting if needed.
For single-family homes in the Bluffs and Concert Park areas, the HOA rules are usually less restrictive but still worth checking before installation. We confirm with the HOA before starting any work that involves the exterior of the building.
Multi-Tenant Building Installations
Replacing a multi-tenant intercom system in a Playa Vista loft or condo building involves more than swapping the lobby panel. We have to map every unit to the correct call button on the new DoorBird, configure each tenant’s app individually, train residents on how to receive calls and grant access, and integrate with the existing electric strike or maglock on the lobby door. For larger buildings (20+ units), we use the DoorBird D21DKH, which supports up to 50 tenants on a single panel and has a built-in directory feature.
We schedule multi-tenant installs around tenant move-outs or quiet weekday hours when possible, and we provide a brief printed reference sheet that residents can keep for the first week after installation while everyone gets used to the new system. The most common question after install is “how do I forward the call to my partner’s phone too?” — DoorBird supports multiple devices per unit, and we walk residents through the setup as part of the install.
Network Setup in Modern Playa Vista Buildings
One of the few advantages of Playa Vista being a newer community is that almost every building was wired with structured Cat5e or Cat6 cabling during construction. This makes DoorBird installs much faster than in older neighborhoods where we have to fish cable through walls. For most multi-tenant buildings, we can use the existing structured cabling to bring POE to the lobby panel, and we add a small managed switch in the building’s network closet to handle the new device. For single-family Bluffs homes, the existing Cat6 runs from the router to a structured wiring panel are usually sufficient to support the DoorBird at the front door.

Playa Vista DoorBird FAQ
Will my HOA approve a DoorBird installation?
In our experience, yes — most Playa Vista HOAs approve DoorBird quickly because it’s a one-for-one replacement of an existing intercom rather than a new visible fixture. We provide all the documentation your architectural committee needs, including spec sheets, mounting drawings, and finish options.
How does DoorBird handle multi-tenant buildings?
DoorBird’s multi-tenant models (D2105V, D21DKV, D21DKH) support up to 50 units on a single panel. Each unit gets its own call button and its own app account, so residents only get notifications for visitors who are buzzing their specific unit.
Can I get notifications on multiple devices?
Yes. DoorBird supports multiple devices per unit, so you can receive calls on your phone, your partner’s phone, a tablet, and an indoor station all at the same time. We set this up during installation.
Will DoorBird work with my building’s existing electric strike or maglock?
Yes. DoorBird has two dry-contact relay outputs that integrate with any electric strike, maglock, or gate operator. We test the trigger and adjust the relay timing during installation.
How long does a multi-tenant install take?
A small building (4-10 units) takes one full day. A larger building (20-50 units) typically takes two days, including resident training and post-install verification. We schedule around quiet hours and tenant convenience.
