If you manage more than one property, you know the credential mess: a fob for the office, a card for the warehouse, a code for the gate, and a drawer full of unlabeled spares from people who left two years ago. Brivo Unified Credential collapses that into one credential (usually the phone already in your pocket) that works at every door and every location on your account.
We install and configure Brivo systems across LA. Questions? (310) 400-0314.
What “Unified” Actually Means
Brivo is a cloud access control platform: readers on your doors, controllers in your closet, and one web dashboard running it all. Unified Credential is the piece that makes a single identity work everywhere. One person, one credential, valid at whichever doors and sites you allow, revocable everywhere in one click the day they leave. No collecting fobs, no “did we ever get her office card back,” no re-keying anything.
Your Credential Options
- Brivo Mobile Pass: the phone is the key. Works from the app, and on supported readers a wave of the hand or a tap wakes it. Nobody forgets their phone at home
- Smart cards and fobs: still the right answer for cleaning crews, shared vehicles, and anyone without a smartphone. Modern encrypted cards, not the old clone-able prox cards
- PIN codes: for low-security doors or as a backup. Best combined with a schedule (vendor codes that only work Tuesday mornings, for example)
Where This Pays Off in Real Life
Multi-site businesses. A manager who covers three locations badges into all three with the same credential, and you see one clean activity trail per person instead of three disconnected logs.
Property portfolios. Maintenance staff move between buildings all day. Unified credentials mean one entry in the system per person, with per-building permissions, instead of a keyring that would embarrass a medieval jailer.
Offboarding. The day someone leaves, one click revokes everything, everywhere, instantly. Compare that to chasing physical keys, and this feature alone justifies the platform for a lot of our clients.
Audit questions. “Who entered the server room last Tuesday night?” is a ten-second search in the dashboard, not a shrug. Every door event is logged per identity, across all sites.
The Honest Fine Print
Brivo is a subscription platform. You’re paying monthly for the cloud dashboard, the mobile credentials, and the fact that you’ll never own a dead server in a closet. For a single door on a single small building, that math doesn’t always win against a standalone keypad. It starts winning fast when you have multiple doors, staff turnover, more than one site, or anyone asking audit questions. That’s the honest version, and it’s the conversation we have during a site visit rather than after an invoice.
It also plays well with the rest of your entry stack: Brivo readers on the doors, a DoorBird video intercom at the gate for visitors, and your gate operator wired into the same access rules. One system deciding who gets in, everywhere. Brivo’s official site covers the platform in depth if you want the full product tour.
What a Rollout Actually Looks Like
People imagine access control changeovers as weeks of locked-out employees. Done right, it isn’t. First a site walk: we map every door and gate, what hardware is on it today, and which wire runs are reusable. Then readers and controllers go in door by door, with the old system staying live until each new door is tested. Credentials migrate in groups (office staff one week, field crews the next), so there’s never a morning where nobody can get in. The dashboard gets configured with your real org structure: who can enter what, where, and when.
Two details worth planning up front. Decide your credential mix early (phones for most people, cards for the exceptions) because it changes which readers we order. And name an administrator: someone on your side who owns adding and removing people. Brivo’s dashboard makes that a five-minute skill, but it belongs to a person, not to “whoever remembers.”
Questions Clients Ask Us
What if someone’s phone dies? A dead phone can’t open a door, same as a forgotten fob. The fix is policy: keep a couple of spare cards at reception, or give key people both credential types.
Does it work during an internet outage? Yes. The controllers keep the access rules locally, so doors keep working with the last-synced permissions. Changes you make in the cloud apply once the connection returns.
Can it run our driveway gate too? That’s the point of doing it with a gate company. We wire the gate operator into the same system, so the parking gate follows the same rules and logs as every door.
When It’s Time to Call Us
We design, install, and service Brivo access control across LA: readers, controllers, mobile credentials, and the door and gate hardware they drive. If your credential drawer is a museum of past employees, call (310) 400-0314 and we’ll map out the cleanup.
